College of Arts Dean `s Speech
College of Arts was founded in Holy Najaf in 1989 to be connected with the University of Kufa which was founded in 1987. Study began in 1990-1991 with two departments (the Arabic language and History). Today it was expanded to include four departments, with the two mentioned above they became six. The new four departments are : Geography, Philosophy, English and Civil Society. The College aims at founding anew department which is the department of Media and Information that is supposed to be opened in 2010-2011 . study period is four years to attain B.A. Degree in the mentioned specializations. This college aims at training specialized staffs, contributing to the scientific research, and reviving Arab Islamic Heritage. The graduated students of this college since 2008-2009 are as following :-
The department of Arabic language :-the Morning studies (1244) ,the Evening studies (308) , the department of English Language:- the Morning studies (585) ,the Evening studies (368) ,department of History Morning studies (881) the Evening studies(377),the department of Geography :- the Evening studies(784 ) the Evening studies(296), the department of Philosophy :- the Morning studies (263) ,the Evening studies (66) , while the graduated students of the department of Archeology, which was closed in (2000-2001 ), were (30 ).Hence the total graduated students of the Morning studies are (3787 ) and the Evening studies are (1415 )to be (5202) students. Higher studies in it began in 1992-1993 to attain M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy and Ph.D. in history. In 1995-1996, students were allowed to attain M.A. Degree in the Arabic language and Ph.D. in 1997-1998. M.A. in geography began in 1998-1999. In 2008-2009, students were allowed to attain Ph.D. Degree in geography. the graduated students of the department of History (70 )for the M.A degree and (44 ) the total (114 ) ,for the Phd, in Geography (31) ,the department of Philosophy (43 )for the M.A and (27) for the Phd , the total (70),the department of Arabic Language (131 )for the M.A and (45 )for the Phd to be (176 ).The college issued two Magazines :- Al-Lugha al –Arabeiy wa adabha and Kulayt Al adab . The College has great Library that contains more than (30000 0books , the periodicals are about (2000) with a video club and a modern electronic library the college also contains an inter –net unit and translation bureau.

Vision and Aims of the College of Arts\ University of Kufa
College of Arts is a true extension of that immortal march of science, innovation and cultural history. It was given birth by the College of Jurisprudence ( the first college established in 1958) in 1989. It seeks after introducing and developing human sciences, believing that humanities are the basis for cultural prosperity. They are specialized in qualifying man who is the cornerstone of the process of development.
Vision of the College
As an academic institution, College of Arts endeavors to develop human social knowledge through training human staffs specialized in the (Arabic language, history, philosophy, geography, English language and civil society), it tries to:

put educational programs and methods that aims at developing students' learning skills and learning them how to acquire and employ knowledge in service of society.

put study plans on the qualitative level through going along with needs of the working staffs and providing educational and cultural environment.

constantly support communication with society's institutions, meet its needs through holding conferences and meetings, and introduce advisory scientific opinions to achieve total development in society.

Training researches specialized in the fields of its departments. It works hard to graduate people of high cultural awareness and abilities in the fields of the English language and literature , strives to develop students' analytic skills and how to deal with documents and historical texts and comprehend historical terms, concepts and information. It also aims at providing students with knowledge, concepts and theories in the fields of philosophy, rhetoric, and grammar, as well as training staffs that contribute to built society through civil society organizations. Department of civil society is considered the first to develop human skills in this field.

Introducing researches, whether were linguistic, historical, philosophical or geographic in order to solve problems concerning those aspects and provide libraries with types of researches and books written in its fields of specialization.

Putting future strategies in service of society, and working towards participation in the society's activities.
